Return to UConn

Readmission Process and Application

To return to UConn after any gap in enrollment, students must complete an application for readmission. Information about the readmission process, including deadlines, requirements, and an application can be found on the Dean of Students website.

Returning After Academic Dismissal

While there are expectations for minimum time away as well as successful completion of academic coursework—taken either as a nondegree student at UConn or at another institution—we also encourage you to focus on the non-academic factors that may have contributed to your academic challenges and dismissal.

Consult your school/college or regional campus for more information about academic requirements and how to prepare for readmission after dismissal.

Note: Readmission after dismissal is neither automatic nor guaranteed and will be considered favorably only when a student’s readmission application indicates a strong probability for academic success.

Required Time Away

Students can return no sooner than one semester (fall and spring semesters only) after a first dismissal and four semesters after a second dismissal (fall and spring semesters only). However, it is not always possible to return after one semester away from UConn, due to academic requirements, tight timelines, and other requirements of the readmission process.

Academic Renewal

If you have been away from UConn for four years or more, you may be eligible for academic renewal if readmitted. For more information, visit Returning to UConn.
